Today Was Quilt Guild Day

Today was my monthly quilt guild day. We had over 100 attending today. The weather was wonderful and the speaker we had was very good. She had a nice, small trunk show along with slides and a great sense of humor. After our program we always have goodies to eat, then after that we have show and tell. There were some really pretty quilts today. I am sorry I didn't get any pictures to share :-(
After guild I usually go over to a good friends house for lunch and today we worked on planning a fabric swap with one other friend to make a Drunkards Path out of 30's prints. I am excited because I have always loved this pattern and I have needed an excuse to cut into my stash of 30's fabric. Can't wait to get started.

Here are some examples of the Drunkards Path Quilt Block Settings:

There are so many ways to set this together! Each of us gets to choose the setting we want to use. It will be interesting to see if each one of us chooses a different one. I'm excited to start pulling fabric and get to cutting.
How many of you like the Drunkards Path two patch pattern, and how difficult do you think piecing curves is? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thinkiing Valentines

Good day. Well the Christmas decorations are all down for another year. I do miss having the tree up, I love to look at it in the evening with the lights blazing, causing some of the ornaments to shimmer and sparkle.

So now my thoughts have turned to Valentines Day. This lovely holiday is a life saver in the middle of winter when everything is so dreary. I love all of the reds and pinks that come with it.

I love to work with wool, so decided to create a little wool candle mat/coffee cup rug. It is so simple to make, really had fun with it. Here are the pictures from start to finish:

Here is my idea drawn out on paper.

Patterns made.

All pieces cut out and ready for placement.

Fused and ready for stitching.

Embroidery floss chosen so now the stitching begins.

All done!!

I had so much fun designing and making this! It will look pretty on one of my side tables for Valentines Day decorating.

Pattern available in my Etsy shop, fabraholic4.etsy.com

A New Year!!

Well here we are in the new year of 2016. I don't know about you, but 2015 went by very fast. This past year was a rather stressful and sad one for me. I had a hip replacement in June, which went very well, but nun the less a bit stressful leading up to the surgery. I have been very blessed with good health up to the time my hip started bothering me. By the time I had my surgery, it had become very painful, making it rather difficult to take care of my horses and well just about everything!  But, with Gods help I was able to carry on until time for the surgery. Then in Oct I lost my only brother very expectantly and suddenly to cancer. The holiday's were a bit sad for me, I miss him very much!! It was only the two of us so we were pretty close. I am really having to call on my faith to get thru losing him.

I am looking forward to this new year. I have several quilts in mind that I want to make. The first one that I am going to start on is a BOM from Keepsake Quilts that I am going to make for my youngest granddaughters new room. It is very different from anything I have ever made before. It is piecing and applique, it should be fun and a challenge.  My love for working with wool has grown, so I am going to definitely be working with wool this year. I am looking into starting a mini wool  project of the month club at my studio. If anybody out there has ever done anything like this, I would love to hear your input on how to do this. Thanks!

I am also going to be more diligent about trying to get some more UFO's done!!! Who knows, this might be the year that I actually get close to getting caught up. My goal is to be more disciplined about wanting to do all the new things that come along.

Wishing all out there a very Happy New Year, full of love, friendships, good health and lots of time to sew.
