Moving Right Along

Today got off to a good start, it was my Day Quilt Guild meeting. Our speaker was Vicky Beasley, The Scrappy Quilter, from Kansas. She had a large trunk show of really beautiful scrappy quilts. Wow has she been busy!! So, needless to say, I came away with lots of ideas!! My dear mama left me tons of fabric and I need to get busy making some scrappy quilts!!

I worked on my friend/client quilt top yesterday and got half of the rows done. It is really turning out pretty!! Hope to get it done tomorrow.

Here is the next row on the design wall ready to be sewn together.

Can't wait to get it done, I think she will be pleased. :-)

It is still cold here, but the sun is shinning. It is supposed to get up to 40 tomorrow, hope they are right!

New Quilt Top

Started a quilt top for a friend/client today. She did a block of the month and asked me to put it together for her. She did a good job sewing the blocks, so it is going together really nice. It is going to be a beautiful quilt! Here are the first two rows.

Oh my gosh, the wind is really howling out there! Supposed to get really cold tonight, 5 below zero!! I always worry about my horses when it gets so cold. They have shelter and nice winter coats, but still worry. I used to blanket them, but read several articles that they are better off without them. This is the first winter that I haven't blanketed them. Here is a picture of them last winter.

Valentine Wool Mug Rug

Well today started out very nice outside, then the wind came, then the cold! It was supposed to be in the 50's today, so kind of disappointing.

I did get the Valentine Wool Mug Rug done that I designed the other day. I love working with wool, well I guess I have said that before. It is so soft and easy to work with. I had dyed some white wool that I had this pretty pink color quite some time ago, so I decided to use a piece of it and it turned out really nice. If I remember correctly I used food coloring to dye it with. I have experimented with several things to dye fabric with, like veggies, bark off a tree, food coloring, koolade, flowers and herbs. It is really fun to see how the fabric turns out, sometimes it is really a surprise.

The color on the picture above is truer than the one on the bottom.

I'm going to make another one and change the colors around a bit.
I will be offering a kit for this in my Etsy shop sometime next week. Will let you know when.

Hope everyone had a nice day.
Enjoy your Sunday.

Wool Designs

Well I did get a few designs worked on last evening for some wool mug rugs. They are pretty simple but I think they will work up nicely in the wool. The Valentine one will be worked up in creamy white, burgundy and pink. Not sure of what color I will use for the embroidered flowers yet. I love working with felted wool, the feel is lovely and you don't have to worry about turning under the edges of the fabric. Plan on getting started sewing today.

It is really windy here today!! Just took Charlee (my corgi dog) out for a short walk and was just about blown away! :-o

Hope to have pictures of a  finished Valentine Mug Rug done to share with you tomorrow.

Windy Day

My, but it has been a windy day here!! The temp was up in the 40's but sure didn't feel like it with those chilly winds!

Tonight the menu is roasted veggies, yum. I cut up potatoes, onion, garlic, carrots, zucchini squash, broccoli and a turnip, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with a teaspoon of turmeric, sea salt and pepper. Bake until done. Serve with some nice whole wheat bread. Makes a nice warm meal on a chilly evening. Gee, a nice glass of white wine might be nice too.

Ready for the oven.........
Oh, the house smells so good!

I am going to try and get started on a new pattern for a wool mug rug for valentines day and one for horse lovers. Pictures will follow.

Hope everyone has a nice cozy evening.

Small Quilting Group Today

Today was small quilting group day. There are 6 of us that meet once a month for food, friendship, sharing and stitching. It is so nice to have a group of friends that have the same interest's that you do. The food was fantastic and we had a nice relaxed time of hand sewing on our individual projects. One of the girls was working on a pretty red work block and another was finishing the embroidery on a vintage, small tablecloth. I am still working on getting the pillowcases embroidered that one of the girls in the group gave me. It was a lovely afternoon. Looking forward already to the next one in Feb.

I just finished a quilt top for a client in TN. It is a big block pattern and turned out to be 86"x 101", a big quilt. Now just need to get the backing sewn together and send it off to the quilter. Yea!!
Tomorrow is my day to stay in town to get errands run and teach piano lessons. Love teaching the kids how to play the piano, can be very rewarding.

Have a lovely evening and Blessings to All

Hi, my name is Jan and I am from the mid western state of Kansas. Welcome to my new blog.

This is my first blog here on blogger. I used to have another blog, but life got in the way and had to shut it down. Hopefully life will allow me to start again because I have missed it and the friends that I had made blogging.
I love fabric and quilts. I have just opened up a studio where I make and repair quilts for clients. It is nice and big so I have lots of room to work and pretty good light. I have lots of plans for it, but will have to pace myself!
Today is a beautiful day here. It has been so cold and lots of snow, so a day in the 50's is very welcome. Hopefully it will melt off the rest of the snow.
Well, I have lots to learn about this new blog. Will try and post pictures next time.
